Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Tuesday wished Britain’s King Charles a “full and speedy recovery” on behalf of the Israeli people.

“I have greatly appreciated my recent conversations and the opportunities to meet with His Majesty, and have always greatly benefited from his wisdom and insight. I look forward to seeing His Majesty’s swift return to public engagements,” Herzog tweeted.

Less than 18 months into his reign, Charles, 75, has been diagnosed with cancer and has begun treatment. The monarch will suspend public engagements but will continue to “undertake State business and official paperwork as usual,” Buckingham Palace announced on Monday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, sent their “heartfelt well wishes to King Charles III and our prayers for his good health” after the diagnosis was announced on Monday.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz on Monday extended his “prayers and wishes for the full and fast recovery of the friend of the Jewish people, King Charles,” in a post on X.

Earlier this year, Herzog was invited to Charles‘s coronation in London, where he mingled with an array of national leaders, including those from a string of Arab countries, at Buckingham Palace.

Charles was anointed with oil from the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, a part of the ceremony deemed so sacred it was concealed behind screens.

Herzog previously met with Charles shortly after becoming president in 2021 and then saw him again at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022.
