Israel accuses Hamas of using charity to fund fighters

COGAT claims the terror group channeled donor money via Qawafel Al-Khair to support its military wing, citing documents seized in Gaza.

The Hamas terrorist organization redirected humanitarian donations through a charitable association to its armed fighters, Israel’s military liaison to the Palestinians said on Friday, citing internal documents it says were seized during the war in Gaza.

The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, known as COGAT, released what it described as a 2023 Hamas report showing the radical Islamist group used ties with the “Qawafel Al-Khair” association to divert donor funds. The documents allegedly show money was used for food packages for Hamas operatives and direct payments to members of its military wing.

“Throughout the war, Hamas has systematically exploited humanitarian organizations to advance its military agenda,” COGAT said.

“Responsible international actors should engage in the registration processes to prevent their platforms from being abused for terror,” the statement continued. “No one wants to become the next UNRWA,” the statement continued, referring to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

Jerusalem has provided extensive evidence of systemic infiltration into UNRWA operations by Hamas since the terror group led the Palestinian attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. A report published on Sept. 17 by the Geneva-based NGO UN Watch accused UNRWA of knowingly employing Hamas terrorist leaders as principals and teachers in Palestinian schools, “turning classrooms into incubators of hate.”
