Israel’s cost of living rises along with inflation

Israel’s cost of consumer goods rose by 0.6% in May, according to data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday.

This was lower than forecasts that predicted a 0.7% to 0.8% rise, reported i24News.

Inflation over the past year was 4.1%, which is lower than some other countries, such as the United States, which hit 8.6% in May. The year 2021, however, was marked by Israel’s highest inflation rate in 10 years.

The price of fresh fruit rose by 13.8% in May; fresh vegetables dropped by 0.7%. Clothing and shoes rose 2.2%, and housing prices rose 0.9% in May, with prices rising a staggering 15.4% in the past year.

Earlier this month, Israel’s capital and most populated city, Jerusalem, and its second-largest city, Tel Aviv on the Mediterranean Sea, made the list of the 20 most expensive cities in the world, according to a report by ECA International.
