‘Kill the Jews’ scrawled at Canada’s Concordia University

“It is categorically unacceptable and antisemitism has no place on our campus,” a university spokesperson told JNS on Saturday when asked for comment.

The words “Kill the Jews” were found scrawled inside a building at Concordia University in Montreal over the weekend, marking the latest antisemitic incident in Canada.

The vandalism, which included the words “Allahu Akbar,” Arabic for “God is great,” was discovered in a campus bathroom.

“It is categorically unacceptable and antisemitism has no place on our campus,” a university spokesperson told JNS on Saturday.

Bnai Brith Canada said the message was “a direct threat to Jewish students” and accused the university of creating an environment where “hate has become normalized.”

“Jewish students at Concordia are entering buildings where open hostility is now routine,” the organization posted to X on Sunday. “They hear assurances of safety while the reality around them shows the opposite. Concordia’s leadership has allowed this problem to escalate and has not taken the action required to protect its own students.”

In October, chaos engulfed Montreal’s downtown area as riot police clashed with anti-Israel protesters outside both Concordia University and McGill University. Montreal police said they had been aware of planned demonstrations and had deployed units to “ensure everyone’s safety.”

Concordia earlier announced the closure of its Sir George Williams downtown campus due to “threats of extreme disruption,” according to an email from president and vice chancellor Graham Carr to students and staff obtained by Canada’s National Post newspaper.

A day earlier, the Israeli Foreign Ministry sharply condemned student groups at Concordia for planning a “shameful” pro-Hamas rally on the second anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre.

“Concordia University student groups are organizing a rally this October 7, celebrating the massacre and atrocities committed by Palestinians, glorifying terrorism under the banner of ‘resistance,’” the Foreign Ministry posted on X. “These groups don’t support peace or justice. They’re celebrating murder, rape & the kidnapping of innocent civilians, carried out by Hamas terrorists—under the protection of a Canadian university. Terror has no place on campus.”

The trip comes as tourism from the United States began to pick up this summer, just ahead of next month’s resumption of direct flights to Tel Aviv by two major U.S. airlines.
“If you are not here, you allow the enemies to take over,” Danny Danon told JNS, of why the Jewish state must be present at the United Nations. “If I do not come to the room, they will continue to promote hate.”
U.S. envoy Tom Barrack expressed “deep concern” over an attack in northwestern Syria, which the IDF has not commented on.
“We decided that it was time for a rigorous narrative review of what we called anatomy of antisemitism in the health professions, not just medicine but across-the-board,” one of the authors of a new paper told JNS.
