The move came at the orders of the Cabinet, an official told JNS.
“It is not possible that while our soldiers are risking their lives in Gaza, the Israeli government is feeding the enemy,” Yulia Malinovsky, who introduced the bill, told JNS.
“This is a long-term strategic investment in Israel, and is a great sign of confidence in the Israeli tech industry,” said Israel Innovation Authority CEO Dror Bin.
The government, which enjoyed a comfortable 67-seat majority, is now reduced to a minority of 50 seats in the 120-seat Knesset.
Fifteen Knesset members voted against the proposal, and multiple opposition MKs boycotted the vote.
“This is an opportunity that must not be missed,” said MK Sukkot.
Aryeh Deri, the head of Shas, said that the Haredi parties would try to legislate the draft law from outside the government.
Three legislators stand with Ayman Odeh of the Hadash-Ta’al Party, and “with the right of all lawmakers, Arab and Jewish, to speak freely and without fear of political retribution.”
“This is not a local conflict—it’s a global struggle between life and death, between light and darkness,” said Ambassador Axel Wahnish.
The vote was called after the Supreme Court ruled against Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara’s claim that the hearing was illegal.
