According to Turkey, its soldiers have come under fire from YPG forces, which Ankara has called a “terrorist offshoot” of the Kurdish movement within Turkey that has been fighting for independence since 1984.
Efforts to stop the sale began when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan purchased the advanced Russian S-400 air-defense system.
“Whoever is on the side of Israel, let everyone know that we are against them,” declared Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The president instead seems to prefer negotiations with Turkey, even after it purchased the Russian S-400 missile-defense system.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper “understands the strategic relationship with Israel, and that the alternative is no alternative,” said former Pentagon official Michael Rubin.
U.S. President Donald Trump noted that for purchasing the Russian defense system, Turkey will be barred from acquiring the F-35 fighter jet.
“Turkey will no longer be able to receive F-35 stealth jets and Turkish companies removed from the F-35 supply chain will lose $12 billion of revenue,” Ayken Erdemir, a senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies.
“Israel follows with serious concern recent steps taken by Turkey in the waters off Cyprus’s northeast coast,” says Foreign Ministry spokesman, joining Egypt and the E.U. in condemning Turkish drilling operations.
At least 12 of the plots targeted Turkey, whose security agencies were able to stop potentially catastrophic attacks on its soil as a result.
