“Those convicted of felonies or who are otherwise deemed to pose a public safety threat are not eligible for deferred enforced departure,” said Jake Sullivan, the U.S. national security advisor.
It was the second such attack against the Jewish congressman since Oct. 7.
Dominic M. Koca said that he committed the crime so he could “be known for something.”
“Multiple people were taken into custody regarding this incident,” said a spokesperson from the NYPD, and charged with offenses.
NYPD Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $3,500 for information about the assailant.
The Republican, a former IDF soldier who is an Ethiopian-born Israeli-American, lost by about eight points to Tom Suozzi.
“History settles every account. And today, on the value of American leadership and strength, history will record that the Senate did not blink,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

The group called the congressman “an exemplary defender of our national security and the U.S.-Israel alliance.”
Fadi Kablawi proclaimed that “Hamas is going to finish Israel, and they are going to start going to Europe and America.”
