Germany is currently the top donor nation to UNRWA, contributing nearly $170 million in 2019. Experts say that UNRWA’s textbooks promote “the delegitimization of Israel and the Jews in what they call ‘Palestine.’ ”
“This resolution has had a real and negative impact on our students’ wellness and experience of their campus,” said San Francisco Hillel executive director Rachel Nilson Ralston.
The possibility of doing so caused some pushback from some State Department officials, lawmakers and the Anti-Defamation League.
