At the 2025 Tribute Brunch sponsored by the Philadelphia and Delaware chapters of Americans for Ben-Gurion University (A4BGU), the theme was decidedly on revving up that engine.
“It’s important to laugh,” Doug Seserman, outgoing CEO of A4BGU, said as he formally welcomed attendees, six days after the release of the 20 living Israeli hostages from Gaza.
The new programs, which also include postdoctoral fellowships for Israelis, “strengthen Harvard’s academic engagement with Israel,” the Ivy League university said.

The Beersheva university noted that Sebastian Ben-Daniel “has been teaching for many years and is a respected lecturer.”

“Our role is not only in higher education and groundbreaking research,” said Daniel Chamovitz, professor and president of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. It’s also about “building a cosmopolitan, attractive society the youth of Israel want to be a part of.”
The initiative comes as part of a broader strategy to revitalize the Negev, the Prime Minister’s Office announced.
Arizona State University President Michael M. Crow is the co-author of a book advocating for “the evolution of American higher education.”
The funds will support capital projects ($500 million), student aid ($250 million) and research excellence ($250 million).
