“Under the deal reached today, effective at 4 a.m. tomorrow, local time, the fighting across the Lebanese-Israeli border will end,” the U.S. president said.
“I had a good conversation with my successor-to-be, Sen. Rubio, the other day,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said. “I look forward to meeting with him and to going over in detail exactly where we are and where we hope we can go.”
“We destroyed major parts of Iran’s air defense system and missile-manufacturing capabilities, and we demolished a significant component of their nuclear program,” the Israeli prime minister said.
The ceasefire is set to go into effect at 4 a.m. local time on Wednesday.
Israel is under pressure by the U.S. administration to finalize a deal before the Thanksgiving holiday.
It marks the first time since 2000 that Israeli forces have advanced this deep into Lebanese territory • IDF issues evacuation orders for 20 sites in Dahieh, south of Beirut.
Some community heads decried the emerging deal as surrender and defeat.
Concerns linger over Hezbollah’s compliance and Israel’s operational freedom.
In a separate incident, a reservist non-commissioned officer was severely wounded during combat in the central Gaza Strip.
“Any announcement of a ceasefire is welcome. Hezbollah has stood by our people and made significant sacrifices,” said Osama Hamdan.
U.S. Special Coordinator for the Middle East Brett McGurk was heading to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to discuss using an Israel-Hezbollah truce as a “catalyst” to end hostilities with Hamas.
IDF Col. (res.) Yoav Yarom took full responsibility for the death of IDF Maj. (res.) Ze’ev Erlich, 71, who was shot by Hezbollah terrorists after being allowed into Lebanon in violation of IDF protocol.
