Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir on Monday convened senior commanders and brigade leaders to review inquiries into the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attack and implement findings across the military.
The conference featured conclusions from an expert team led by Maj. Gen. (res.) Sami Turgeman, with briefings on lessons learned from the attack, integration of inquiry findings, foundational elements of a multi-year plan and guidelines for operational readiness.
“We are investigating with courage, drawing lessons and moving forward,” said Zamir. “The people of Israel look to us and expect us to meet the task—this is our mission and our duty.”
Zamir said the IDF has completed inquiries into the first day of the war and the preceding period. A training center is being established to review the remainder of the conflict.
“The threats have not ended—they are changing,” said Zamir. “We have altered the regional strategic balance: The State of Israel is currently in a position of strength and strategic advantage, with the ability to return to combat at any time should we be required to do so.”
The conference is part of a broader effort to conclude Oct. 7 inquiries, strengthen IDF foundations and restore full operational readiness, according to the military.
