Palestinian Authority Jerusalem Affairs Minister Fadi al-Hadami was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of conducting political activities in eastern Jerusalem, according to a statement by the Israel Police. The P.A. is forbidden by law from engaging in political activity in Jerusalem.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said Hadami was arrested early Wednesday, and that the P.A. governor of Jerusalem, Adnan Gheit, is being sought for the same offense.
Hadami was arrested for the same reason back in June.
P.A. leader Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah movement condemned what it called Israeli “harassment” of Palestinian officials in Jerusalem, saying it was part of an effort by Israel to consolidate its control over the “occupied” city, the Palestinian WAFA news agency reported.
