A Palestinian man died on Tuesday after being stabbed during a clash with Israelis near Ariel, according to the Israel Police.

The victim was evacuated to the hospital in serious condition, where he later died of his wounds, police said in a statement. The identity of the assailant was not yet known, and the investigation into the incident was ongoing, said police.

The Palestinian Authority-run WAFA news agency identified the victim as Ali Hassan Harb, 27, and reported that he had been stabbed in the upper body by “an Israeli settler.” The incident took place in Iskaka, just east of Ariel, according to WAFA.

“Local sources said settlers had set up a tent on village land and when residents, including the deceased, went to the land to kick them out, a settler stabbed Harb in the heart and killed him,” the report stated.

Reuters quoted an Iskaka resident as stating that the assailant was an Israeli.
