The Israel Police Special Patrol Unit (Yasam) located on Thursday in a Tel Aviv apartment a baby kangaroo and other exotic animals that were stolen the previous night from a zoo in the Beit She’an Valley in northern Israel.

A 63-year-old suspect was arrested for further investigation in connection to the case.

According to the police, a complaint was received on Thursday morning about two suspects who had allegedly broken into the Gan Garoo zoo near Kibbutz Nir David that hosts animals from Australia.

Chris, a rare albino red-necked wallaby kangaroo, whose fur is snow-white and ears, nose and paws are pink, was stolen.

Special Patrol Unit officers opened an investigation that led them to an apartment in the Tzahala neighborhood in northeastern Tel Aviv.

After the stolen animals were located, professional authorities were summoned to assess the kangaroo’s medical condition. It was later returned to the zoo.

The suspect was brought to the Northern District Police offices to be questioned.

A decision on whether to bring him before a judge is pending the police’s request to extend his detention.
