CTeen’s mission is to provide a nurturing environment fusing fun, friendship, humanitarian outreach, mitzvah observance and engaging Torah study among Jewish youth. Inspired by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, the group empowers teens to actualize their infinite potential while cultivating a strong sense of mission, Jewish pride and love of God.
One of the most powerful moments came when 17-year-old Priva Schlanger took the stage with the delegation from Sydney, two months after the terrorist attack on Bondi Beach.
“It was so powerful to see how different we all are, yet we have this common Jewish heartbeat,” said Alexa Roth, 17, of Stony Brook, N.Y.
“This year, especially, we all feel how important it is to stand proud,” said Rafael Heilborn, an 11th-grader from São Paulo, Brazil.
“In the face of adversity, our response is to strengthen our commitment to our heritage and values,” said Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky of Chabad World Headquarters in Brooklyn, N.Y.
“These soldiers and mechanics are working nonstop to protect our people, and being able to help them even in a small way was a special experience,” said Shai Freidman, 16, from Kansas.
It was the first of its kind in the region with plans to hold another for Spanish speakers in the next few months.
“We are seeing teens respond to these trying times by taking on real leadership roles,” says Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky.
