The Republican Jewish Coalition has hired Arie Dana, former chief of staff for Rep. Michelle Steel (R-Calif.), as its new deputy director of government affairs and director of executive branch relations.

“The RJC is proud to announce the expansion of our government affairs team with the hiring of Arie Dana,” it said in a statement.

He “led the office to move bipartisan pieces of legislation forward, including ramping up sanctions on Iran, combating antisemitism and unleashing America’s economy,” it added.

A first-generation Mexican-American born and raised in Los Angeles, Dana worked with Steele at the state and local levels before becoming her chief of staff. He served as her director of communications at the California State Board of Equalization, and later, as her senior policy advisor and chief of staff at the Orange County Board of Supervisors.

In 2022, Dana was awarded a Capital Chai Award by the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington in 2022.

Elizabeth Barcohana, chair of Jewish engagement at the California Republican Party, told JNS that the statement is “abhorrent and not in touch with the concerns of California families.”
