Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is facing backlash for misplaced comments he made about the Buffalo Bills football team during a news conference on Sunday that addressed increasing gun violence.
“I’m going to say a few words about the terrible shooting in Sydney, Australia, okay?” he said. “First, of course, as I always say, no matter what, go Bills. They beat the Patriots today, it’s a big deal.”
Later in his remarks, Schumer called the Bondi Beach and Brown University shootings “sickening events,” adding, “We must do more to stop gun violence.” (JNS sought comment from Schumer.)
David Harris, author of Antisemitism: What Everyone Needs to Know, wrote, “A football game takes precedence over a massacre of Jews? Shameful.”
“Retire. Immediately,” wrote Mike Lawler (R.-N.Y.) in response to the video.
