Shurat HaDin petitions Israeli government to assign smuggled weapons to civil defense in Judea and Samaria

Shurat HaDin is issuing a demand to strengthen the security personnel in the settlements and along the roads by handing over the smuggled weapons to licensed Israelis.

Judea and Samaria residents led by Shurat HaDin petitioned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to assign weapons smuggled by Jordanian Parliament member Imad al-Adwan to strengthen the civil-defense system in settlements. The petitioners seek to assign the weapons in favor of their own defense, in the face of the current wave of terrorism. Shurat HaDin is issuing a demand to strengthen the security personnel in the settlements and along the roads, by handing over the smuggled weapons to licensed Israelis. Al-Adwan exploited his diplomatic passport to smuggle various goods into Israel, including weapons.

David Stern, a defense readiness trainer in Samaria who was shot in the head at point-blank range during the Huwara Attack, is a part of this initiative. Stern urges the Israeli government to stop containing and restraining those who cause harm to Israelis, whether bodily or mental, and to implement zero tolerance instead.

“The release of the Jordanian Member of Parliament is yet another step toward obliterating Israeli deterrence. I expect the elected government to take action to strengthen civil security in Judea and Samaria and to provide extra tools for us to protect our homes. The seized weapons ought to reach the proper hands, licensed Israelis who will bolster the security of the Judea and Samaria settlements,” said Stern.

“There is little consolation in the claim that al-Adwan has been supposedly handed over to the authorities in Jordan for trial there,” said Shurat HaDin president, Adv. Nitsana Darshan-Leitner. “This is the same legal system that just a few years ago released the murderer of the seven girls on Peace Island before he had completed his sentence, giving him a hero’s welcome upon his return home. The victims’ blood, which has barely dried, cries out to us in the face of this inexplicable decision, which fails to meet the most fundamental expectations from administrative authorities. It undermines the rule of law and forfeits the security of the citizens of Israel.”
