Spain hosts global coalition members to deconstruct defeating ISIS

The single-day meeting in Madrid included officials from Europe, the United States, Africa and other regions.

Spain hosted a meeting on Monday of senior diplomatic officials from the Small Group of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS/Daesh that included officials from the United States, Europe, Africa and other regions.

It “reaffirmed coalition members’ commitment to enhance collective efforts to disrupt foreign terrorist travel, operational planning, financial support networks and recruitment efforts,” according to a U.S. State Department readout.

The gathering in Madrid discussed the potential risks of ISIS in Syria post-Assad, as well as “prioritized disruption” of the terror groups to travel to diminish its capability of carrying out attacks in other regions.

Participants also welcomed new initiatives, such as the creation of the Coalition’s Terrorist Travel Working Group.
