“Some people, under the pretext of helping Palestinians, feel the obligation to single out Jews,” said Jordan Acker, a partner at the Goodman Acker law firm.

Police in Southfield, Mich., are offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest after vandals targeted a local law firm with anti-Israel graffiti.

The vandals spray-painted phrases such as “Divest Now” and “Free Palestine,” along with red handprints, outside the Goodman Acker law firm.

Southfield Police Sgt. Jared Womble shared security footage of the incident with JNS.

At 1:39 a.m. on Monday, a group of four suspects vandalized the building, according to Womble. Near the end of the video, four small, square-shaped flashes can be seen. “Detectives are working diligently to identify the origin of these flashes,” said Womble, according to CBS News Detroit.

Jordan Acker, partner at the firm and a University of Michigan regent, said at a press conference: “I was not targeted today because I am a regent. I am a target of this because I am Jewish, this neighborhood is Jewish, and because some people, under the pretext of helping Palestinians, feel the obligation to single out Jews.”

Acker’s partner, Barry Goodman, defended people’s right to protest but said this was not a legitimate protest. “They can do everything the constitution allows. But they can’t do this,” he said.

“The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Southfield Police Department at (248) 796-5500, reference complaint number 24-19826,” Womble told JNS. “However, if you would like to remain anonymous and earn a cash reward if your tip leads to an arrest, please call 1-800-SPEAK-UP.”

“This is meant to make the job of the police and prosecutors easier,” Tara Cook-Littman, of the Jewish Federation Association of Connecticut, told JNS.
“No challenges were received during the public display period,” Shirley N. Weber’s office told JNS.
A 25-foot buffer zone around houses of worship would include a penalty for protesters who breach it, though the state Assembly speaker said nothing has been agreed to yet.
“An event at a city-owned pool that was publicly and indiscriminately advertised as ‘whites only’ would surely violate the Constitution,” the executive director of the state Public Safety Office wrote. “The same must be true here.”
