IDF confirms killing Hezbollah rocket commander in Lebanon

Mohammad Ali Jamoul’s “activities constituted a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon,” the army said.

The Israel Defense Forces on Saturday killed a regional commander of Hezbollah’s rocket array in the Deir al-Zahrani area in Southern Lebanon, the military said.

Mohammad Ali Jamoul “advanced numerous projectile attacks toward Israeli civilians and IDF troops, and was involved recently in efforts to reestablish Hezbollah’s terrorist infrastructure in the area,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said.

“Jamoul’s activities constituted a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon,” the statement continued.

The Israeli military concluded by saying that it will continue to operate in the region “to remove any threat posed to the State of Israel.”

Two days earlier, the Israeli Air Force attacked a Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure site in eastern Lebanon’s Beqaa Valley.

The site contained weapons and showed signs of efforts by Hezbollah to rebuild it after previous IAF strikes, the military said.

The situation in Lebanon remains volatile following the expiration of the ceasefire on Feb. 18. The deal ended more than a year of war, after Hezbollah began attacking Israel the day after Hamas’s massacre on Oct. 7, 2023.

The terms of the Nov. 27 ceasefire agreement between Jerusalem and Beirut required Hezbollah to vacate all areas south of the Litani River.

Defense Minister Israel Katz has repeatedly warned that the ceasefire deal with Beirut would be void if Iranian-backed Hezbollah refuses to withdraw from Southern Lebanon as required by the agreement.
