The soldiers believed their lives were in danger; a Golani deputy commander was dismissed and the 14th Armored Brigade commander received a formal reprimand.
Targets included gunmen, weapons storage facilities and structures used by terrorist groups.
Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak called for a “thorough investigation” of the incident, which according to the military was the result of a technical malfunction.
Hamza Asafah, who took part in the massacre and staged release events, was slain in a precision airstrike in central Gaza two weeks ago.
