IDF intercepts drone from Lebanon near Acre

The Israel Defense Forces shot down a drone that infiltrated Israel by sea from Lebanon on Monday, the army confirmed.

Rocket warning sirens pealed in the Acre region on Israel’s northern coast on Monday afternoon for the first time since the war against Hamas began on Oct. 7.

“Following the initial report on the activation of an alert in the Galilee area, air-defense fighters intercepted an unmanned aircraft that penetrated into the State of Israel from the territory of Lebanon from the maritime space, in the area of [Kibbutz] Ein Hamifratz,” the IDF said.

Shortly after the drone attack, terrorists fired at an army position near Kibbutz Misgav Am, setting off air-raid sirens in Kiryat Shmona, the IDF said. The army responded with artillery fire at the source of the attack.

Earlier on Monday, the army shared footage of a drone strike it carried out against a terrorist cell in Southern Lebanon.

According to the IDF, the cell was preparing to fire an anti-tank guided missile attack at troops operating in the Mount Dov area.

‘Two unmanned aircraft detected’

In a separate incident on Israel’s southern border, the IDF shot down two terrorist drones as they attempted to cross the border from Gaza.

“Following the initial report of an intrusion into the airspace in the area of Nir Oz and Ein Habesor, two unmanned aircraft were detected that penetrated from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory,” the IDF said.

The Hamas terrorist organization said it had deployed two suicide drones, claiming in a propaganda video that it “targeted occupation targets deep within our occupied territories for the first time.”

Hamas terrorists killed 1,400 Israelis and wounded more than 5,400 in a massive offensive launched from the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, which included the firing of thousands of rockets at Israel and the infiltration of the Jewish state by terrorist forces.

As of Monday, 295 people remained hospitalized, of whom 46 were seriously wounded, 166 moderately wounded and 83 lightly wounded, according to Health Ministry data.

Terrorist groups in the Strip have fired at least 7,400 rockets into Israel since Oct. 7, a government official said on Sunday.

On Monday afternoon, a rocket from Gaza hit a residential building in Sderot. No injuries were reported in the incident.
