Two new outlets are seeking to cover the Canadian Jewish community since The Canadian Jewish News folded last month.

One is the Canadian Jewish Record, an online publication, consisting of volunteer editors and reporters.

It will not seek advertising, reported The Times of Israel. It was founded by former Canadian Jewish Congress CEO Bernie Farber and former Canadian Jewish News reporter Ron Csillag. Farber will serve as published while Csillag will be editor.

“Sometimes, with sad developments like the CJN’s closing, you need to lose something to fully understand what it is you lost,” Farber told The Times of Israel the day the CJR was launched. “With there no longer being a Canadian Jewish news portal, Ron and I felt strongly, especially during this dark time, that Canadian Jews require a thread connecting coast to coast. In creating the Record, our goal is to make it as balanced, left, right and center, as possible.”

The other publication is TheJ.ca news website, which will go from once covering Winnipeg’s Jewish community to now covering all of Canadian Jewry. The editors and writers are unpaid, and the operation is being funded by outlet’s publisher, Ron East.

“Our ultimate goal is to be a source of news for Canadian Jews from coast to coast and give a voice to the broader community,” East told The Times of Israel, adding, “We will stay true to our visions and beliefs, which include being Zionistic in our approach, and pro-Israel in our beliefs and using [Natan] Sharanksy’s 3D test [demonization, delegitimization and double standards] to determine anti-Semitism.”

“Our hope is that HHS will ensure that if APA is going to continue to be a recipient of federal funds, that it comes into compliance with its obligations under the federal civil rights law,” Rebecca Harris of the Brandeis Center told JNS.
“This is a victory of vision, perseverance and Zionism, and another step on the path to the development of Samaria and a million residents,” said Samaria Regional Council Chairman Yossi Dagan.
Natalie Poulson told JNS that Democratic candidate Luc Jasmin III’s comments are “discrediting” and pointed to an increase in antisemitic incidents of Jew-hatred in the state.
The European Commission is reportedly preparing options after member states failed to reach consensus on broader sanctions against Israel.
Two Israelis were also detained in overnight raids.
