Mamdani taking ‘dangerous steps,’ Israeli consul in New York says

The new mayor’s actions “pose an immediate threat to the safety of Jewish communities in New York City and could lead to an increase in violent antisemitic attacks throughout the city,” the Israeli diplomat said.

Ofir Akunis, the Israeli consul general in New York, decried Zohran Mamdani’s revocation of mayoral executive orders defending Jews and Israel on his first day on the job in City Hall.

“The mayor of New York said he would be a mayor for everyone, yet he is taking dangerous steps in the exact opposite direction,” Akunis stated.

“The decisions to revoke the IHRA definition of antisemitism and to allow for boycotts against Israel are actions that pose an immediate threat to the safety of Jewish communities in New York City and could lead to an increase in violent antisemitic attacks throughout the city,” Akunis added.

Another Israeli official also decried the new mayor’s actions.

Amichai Chikli, Israeli minister for diaspora affairs and combating antisemitism, stated that “not healthcare, nor the cost of living, nor the middle or working class. On his first day in office, Hamas sympathizer Zohran Mamdani makes his top priority loud and clear: targeting and harming the Jewish community by repealing the IHRA definition of antisemitism and New York City’s anti BDS order.”

“When a Muslim Brotherhood Islamist whose slogan is ‘globalize the intifada’ takes control of New York City or London, these are exactly the decisions you get,” Chikli stated. “History is clear. When Islamists gain power, Jews are the first target and never the last.”

Police said the suspect repeatedly slapped the woman on her upper back from behind, though authorities are not investigating the incident as a hate crime.
“Attacking someone because of their faith is not just a crime against one person, it’s an assault on our community,” the Los Angeles County district attorney said.
Deb Gesualdo, the incoming vice president of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, signed an open letter accusing the Anti-Defamation League of promoting “Zionist supremacy.”
“This shows the depravity of the war being waged on Jews,” Deborah Lipstadt, the former U.S. special envoy to monitor and combat antisemitism, stated.
Rep. Jake Auchincloss walked back his interview denouncing the Maine Senate challenger on Tuesday, saying that he would support Democrats re-taking the upper house “regardless” of the outcome in the Maine primary.
“If we want the moral high ground, we have to be better,” Rep. Jason Crow stated.
