Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met on Thursday in Jerusalem with Casey Wasserman, the chairman of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games organizing committee.

“Your leadership over the past two years makes me proud to be Jewish,” Wasserman told Netanyahu, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

The premier thanked Wasserman for coming to Israel and for his “strong support” of the Jewish state, the statement read.

The meeting was also attended by Culture and Sport Minister Miki Zohar and Olympic Committee of Israel Chairwoman Yael Arad.

Wasserman and Arad also met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog at the President’s Residence in the capital city on Thursday.

“I wish Casey and the IOC great success and look forward to seeing more and more Israeli athletes competing for gold at Los Angeles 2028,” the head of state wrote.

Wasserman is also the CEO of Wasserman Media Group, a sports marketing and talent management firm based in Los Angeles.

In October, Indonesia barred Israeli athletes from participating in the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships held in Jakarta.

The move has led to an uproar in Israel, leading the International Olympic Committee, the body governing the Olympic Games, to call on global sports associations not to stage events in the Muslim-majority country.
