Amichai Chikli, the Israeli minister of Jewish Diaspora affairs and combating antisemitism, recently commended an investigative report on U.S. Jew-hatred released by House Republican staff on Dec. 19.
“This report marks a critical step in recognizing and addressing the alarming rise of campus antisemitism in the United States,” he wrote on X. “It is long overdue that those who enable and promote antisemitism are held accountable.”
Chikli outlined four steps in the report that provided “clear and actionable measures” addressing rising antisemitism not only on campus but around the United States.
These steps include enforcing strict compliance with Title VI to prohibit discrimination and address antisemitism on campus; withholding federal funding to institutions that boycott Israel or “tolerate antisemitic behavior”; requiring universities to disclose foreign contributions and tightening government oversight; and revoking funding and tax exemptions for groups and universities that “propagate antisemitism or support terror-related activities.”
“We’ll use what’s in here to continue protecting our Jewish brothers and sisters from discrimination and violence,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) after releasing the report. “But make no mistake, we will continue these efforts in the next Congress, and anytime antisemitism rears its ugly head, the House will shine a light on it and take action.”
A report from StopAntisemitism revealed a 3,000% spike in campus antisemitism since the Hamas-led terrorist attacks on Oct. 7, 2023. The U.S. Department of Education has been working to resolve several university Title VI investigations into campus incidents of Jew-hatred.
