Ofir Akunis, the Israeli consul general in New York, decried Zohran Mamdani’s revocation of mayoral executive orders defending Jews and Israel on his first day on the job in City Hall.
“The mayor of New York said he would be a mayor for everyone, yet he is taking dangerous steps in the exact opposite direction,” Akunis stated.
“The decisions to revoke the IHRA definition of antisemitism and to allow for boycotts against Israel are actions that pose an immediate threat to the safety of Jewish communities in New York City and could lead to an increase in violent antisemitic attacks throughout the city,” Akunis added.
Another Israeli official also decried the new mayor’s actions.
Amichai Chikli, Israeli minister for diaspora affairs and combating antisemitism, stated that “not healthcare, nor the cost of living, nor the middle or working class. On his first day in office, Hamas sympathizer Zohran Mamdani makes his top priority loud and clear: targeting and harming the Jewish community by repealing the IHRA definition of antisemitism and New York City’s anti BDS order.”
“When a Muslim Brotherhood Islamist whose slogan is ‘globalize the intifada’ takes control of New York City or London, these are exactly the decisions you get,” Chikli stated. “History is clear. When Islamists gain power, Jews are the first target and never the last.”
