The gathering also marked the launch of an international center in Jerusalem that will chronicle the history and culture of Jews in the region.
Sens. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) led the effort to halt the sale, which is a result of the UAE normalizing ties with Israel as part of the Abraham Accords.
The goal is to “encourage organizations, notably stemming from Israel’s civil society sector, to tell the ‘Israeli story’ to diverse global audiences utilizing social media.”
“A vision has been set by the leaders of these countries,” said United Arab Emirates Ambassador to the United States Yousef Al Otaiba.
“For Israelis, it is an excellent destination, and a part of this is Israel’s Arab population,” says flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith.
“This was really a priority of the Trump administration since the day it began,” said U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman. “It was a shocking surprise that was four years in the making, and I think the momentum will continue.”
Israir is scheduled to conduct the first such flight to Dubai on Dec. 1.
