“Under pressure, the Houthis have backed down from attacking American ships, but they will face further punishing strikes if they attack U.S. vessels again,” said the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Dorothy Shea, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, censured Houthi terrorists based in Yemen for their attacks on Israel and for threatening international maritime trade as part of her remarks on Tuesday to the world body.

“At President Trump’s direction, the United States took punishing action to defend freedom of navigation against the Houthis,” she stated. “Under pressure, the Houthis have backed down from attacking American ships, but they will face further punishing strikes if they attack U.S. vessels again. We condemn their continued attacks on Israel and support Israel’s right to respond.”

Shea said the issue is “of critical importance for international peace and security,” and that many of “these threats come from terrorist groups.”

U.S. President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire with the Houthis in May, though the terror group has vowed to keep up its attacks on Israel.

The Houthis have launched a series of missiles at the Jewish state in recent weeks, including one on May 4 that landed and damaged an area near Ben-Gurion International Airport, a main target.
