HaShevet’s Chairman Bryan E. Leib congratulates Israeli Diplomat Galit Peleg on being named the Interim Consul General of the Consulate General of Israel in Miami. Her first day in this new role was August 10, 2020. Previously, Galit Peleg was the Consul for Public Diplomacy at the Consulate General of Israel in New York.

“On behalf of HaShevet’s leadership, it’s my honor to congratulate my friend Galit Peleg on being named as the Interim Consul General for the Consulate General of Israel in Miami. Galit has spent her entire career serving the Jewish people in Israel, the United States and around the world. Her passion and commitment for building bridges with Jewish Americans is second to none. Kol Hakavod and welcome back to the United States of America, Galit”.

Galit Peleg served as an officer in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and, after completing her military service, studied at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem where she graduated from two departments: Islam & Middle East Studies and International Relations. During her studies Galit worked with teenagers through several projects, institutions and boarding schools in Haifa and Jerusalem.

In 1998 she joined the Israeli Foreign Service as a cadet. In 1999-2000 she served as Deputy Ambassador to Morocco. From 2001-2005 she served as Deputy Ambassador to Serbia, where she focused on reestablishing the mutual relations between Israel and Serbia during the dismantling process of Yugoslavia.

In 2007-2011, Galit was the head of the liaison office to the European Parliament at the Israeli Mission to the European Union in Brussels.

After returning to Jerusalem, she led special projects in the field of “branding Israel’ and worked with leading PR firms in Europe, through her position at the Media and Public Affairs Division at the Foreign Affairs Ministry. She initiated a campaign called “Start Tel Aviv” to promote Israel as a Start Up Nation, in cooperation with the city of Tel Aviv. This program, which brings non-Jewish entrepreneurs to Israel and turns them into “Ambassadors for Israel,” continues today in more than 50 countries around the world.

She is fluent in Hebrew, English, French, and conversant in Arabic and Serbian.
