“The more we strengthen the bonds between these countries, the more we will remove a tool from propagandists and agitators who have used [the Israeli-Palestinian] conflict for decades to divert from their shortcomings at home and maintain their grip on power,” said Jared Kushner, chairman and founder of newly established Abraham Accords Peace Institute.
It will work with Université Internationale de Rabat to collaborate on the study of Moroccan Jewry, in addition to research and education.
“Algeria was indeed dismayed at Morocco’s decision to resume diplomatic relations with Israel, and more recently, Algeria criticized Morocco for advocating on Israel’s behalf in gaining observer status in the African Union,” said Sarah Feuer, an expert on Arab politics and fellow at The Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
The academic institutions are committed to “innovation on a global scale” and aim to collaborate on areas of mutual interest—namely, agriculture, business, natural sciences and other related fields.
Trade between Israel and the United Arab Emirates alone has reached nearly $600 million; it’s expected to reach $1 billion by the end of the year.
The step forward in relations comes after Jerusalem and Rabat signed a trilateral declaration in December that included an obligation “to resume full official contacts between Israeli and Moroccan counterparts.”
