“The report hides behind misleading claims of ‘academic freedom’ to treat Jewish concerns with an extraordinary level of hesitation absent from similar university reports on other minority groups,” said Douglas Sandoval, managing editor of CAMERA on Campus.
Michael Levitt, president and CEO of the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center, said members understood “that censure would set a chilling precedent and impact trustees’ abilities to stand up to hate and discrimination.”
The Dec. 2 program included a talk by a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a designated terror group in both Canada and the United States.
A total of 68 percent voted against the motion while 32 percent voted in support of the BDS campaign.
Michael Mostyn, CEO of B’nai Brith Canada, which provided a victim-impact statement in the case, said “they caused grave alarm with their hateful sentiments.”
The organization is concerned about a class by assistant professor Shamma Boyarin, who has lashed out at Jews online and posted derogatory images and statements on his personal Twitter account, Motley Jëw.
“We trust that our law-enforcement partners will investigate these matters diligently and do everything possible to apprehend the perpetrators,” said B’nai Brith Canada CEO Michael Mostyn.
In both English and French, the Jewish organization wrote to stores saying by “unfairly singling out Israel with their boycott,” the company has made their products “unpalatable to many Canadian consumers.”
“Lama TV,” founded and produced by Lama Aggad, describes itself on YouTube as “the largest Canadian Arabic TV show.”
The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs CIJA, the advocacy arm of the Jewish federation system in Canada, has created a “Fight It!” campaign to combat rising anti-Semitism across the country.
The 51-page booklet discusses “Palestine” and “colonization” by Israel, includes suggested reading materials and promotes BDS.
