A subsequent review found the UNIFIL troops had been misidentified due to poor weather conditions.

Israeli troops fired warning shots near United Nations peacekeepers across the border in Southern Lebanon on Sunday, the Israel Defense Forces said.

In a statement, the army said soldiers identified two suspects in the El Hamames area and fired warning shots, prompting the individuals to leave the scene. No injuries were reported.

A subsequent review determined the men were UNIFIL troops on patrol, misidentified due to poor weather conditions, the IDF said, adding that the incident is under investigation.

The military stressed that no deliberate fire was directed at U.N. forces and said the matter is being handled through official liaison channels, while reaffirming its commitment to ongoing operations against threats to Israel.
