The country also appointed Milena Santerini as the country’s national coordinator of the fight against anti-Semitism.
“Governments willing to speak out and take action against the persistent hatred of Jews are essential to effectively combating anti-Semitism,” said American Jewish Committee CEO David Harris.
Jewish groups congratulate Portugal for becoming a full IHRA member, one day after France votes to adopt the organization’s definition of anti-Semitism.
The resolution also calls on the government to join other European countries in formally adopting the working definition of anti-Semitism used by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.
“Comments from a student on social media are disturbing and hateful, and antithetical to our university’s core values of diversity and respect,” said George Washington University president Thomas LeBlanc. “We will not tolerate anti-Semitism or bigotry on our campuses.”

“Anti-Semitism is a terrible disease—a spreading virus that threatens the safety of Jews,” said World Zionist Organization vice and acting chairman Yakov Hagoel.
“To help address resurgent anti-Semitism in Canada, we’re adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition of anti-Semitism as part of our strategy,” said Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism.

Moldova recently endorsed the official International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition, as did the European Union.
