Israeli embassies were put on high alert after an explosion near the Israeli embassy in New Delhi in the early evening of Dec. 26.
“There were no casualties as a result of the explosion and all the envoys and embassy workers are safe,” Israel’s Foreign Ministry told JNS.
“The circumstances of the incident are under investigation by the local authorities in full cooperation with the Israeli security forces,” it added.
The explosion occurred at 5:08 p.m. local time, and sources said two suspects were caught on CCTV near the site of the blast, India Today reported.
Police searched the area and found a letter wrapped in an Israeli flag. The one-page typed letter, described as “abusive,” denounced Israel’s war in Gaza and called for “revenge,” reported the news outlet.
Based on traces left at the site, experts believe it may have been a “chemical explosion.”
Following Oct. 7, Israel evacuated a number of embassies in Muslim countries due to fears of anti-Israel sentiment among the populations spilling into violence.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry evacuated diplomats from Cairo, Morocco, and Bahrain.
Immediately after the attack, Israel placed all diplomatic missions around the world on high alert.
The Foreign Ministry directed diplomats to shelter at home unless given special permission from security officials.
