Since 2011, the Jewish News Service (JNS) has been an unabashedly pro-Israel news organization, whose staff of journalism professionals has been providing high-quality and reliable news, features and analysis to a growing number of Jewish and Christian newspapers and online publications.
Today, that number stands at over 70 publications, and JNS is one of the fastest-growing syndication services covering Israel and the Jewish world.
The number 70 has special significance in Judaism. It is a number that in biblical culture represents the nations of the world. At JNS, we believe—and this is reflected in our content, in which we sort out the truth from the biased reporting seen elsewhere—that Israel and the Jewish world represent a light unto the nations. JNS is proudly shining that light across the globe.
Today marks the beginning of a new era at JNS
During the past year, JNS has been working with RGB Media—among the best developers in the business—to develop a new website and daily newsletter that embody the content and goals of our news service. The site features one of the cleanest, modern designs in the industry, on mobile and desktop, without the overbearing advertising of many news sites—particularly those outlets focused on Israel.
The new website effectively highlights our:
- High-quality, full-length news and feature pieces, authored by our talented pool of correspondents
- Shorter news briefs, which keep you up to date on the most important stories of the day
- “Drudge-style” aggregation links to important news and analysis published by other publications
- A robust section of JNS opinions and analysis contributed by some of the Jewish world’s most respected and prolific columnists
Leading our staff is new JNS Editor in Chief Jonathan Tobin. For decades, Jonathan’s powerful opinion columns have been found on a near-daily basis in dozens of publications. Prior to joining to JNS, Jonathan spent more than eight years at Commentary magazine, first as executive editor and then as senior online editor and chief political blogger. Before that, he served for 10 years as editor of the Jewish Exponent in Philadelphia, after editing the Connecticut Jewish Ledger.
Jonathan will be leading a growing number of op-ed contributors, including Ben Cohen, Melanie Phillips, Fiamma Nirenstein, Stephen Flatow and more. JNS seeks to become a hot-button opinion platform for regular contributors who provide cogent analysis, on issues of import larger than themselves that are relevant to Israel and the Jewish world. Unlike other op-ed platforms, JNS will carefully vet our contributors to keep the level of dialogue on the highest level. Our new website design has been fully optimized to heavily promote the high-quality work of our contributors.
We believe that dozens, if not hundreds of contributors will join our platform, and will consider JNS to be an ideological home for their pro-Israel content. If you would like to participate, just click on the “Publish Your Column” link on the left column of our homepage.
In the weeks ahead, we will begin partnering with numerous pro-Israel organizations based in Israel, the United States and around the world, to become the go-to publishing portal for the research and analysis of their experts, fellows, professional staff and lay leaders. Currently, more than 20 organizations have already expressed their intention of partnering with JNS.
The site’s homepage also recognizes the publications that make JNS a valuable service. All of our syndication affiliates can be found on our site, with their names, logos and links to their publications. We look forward to the number of publications growing exponentially in the weeks, months and years ahead. We are actively marketing our content to Jewish, Christian and secular mainstream publications.
Much of our content is of particular interest to the pro-Israel Christians around the world, and JNS is one of the few publications that has developed deep ties with America’s pro-Israel evangelical Christian community.
Our website features a powerful platform, entitled JNS Press+, that has been designed specifically with the editors of our syndication affiliates in mind. The section presents a “professional user” display of content, along with metadata, word counts, embargo dates and media files associated with each article. Articles requested for download by our registered partner publications are automatically sent by email to each respective editor.
Not only is JNS distributing TO other publications, but we are also opening two-way partnerships in which we are distributing the content written BY our distribution partners, who seek a wider audience for their own high-quality content. Similarly, JNS has exclusive rights to redistribute the content of several partner publications.
Reflecting our role as a vast distribution network, JNS has now changed its name to Jewish News Syndicate.
We are a syndicate—not only as providers of content for republication—but also as a powerful network of organizations, freelance writers, columnists, scholars, editors and newspaper publishers that are all working to portray Israel and the Jewish people in a positive light, and to counterbalance the overwhelming number of forces within mainstream media and social media that are attempting to discredit and delegitimize the Jewish State.
We believe you will enjoy the new JNS. Jewish News Syndicate is a 501(c)(3) registered not-for-profit news service. That means that our syndication revenue alone does not fully support our operations. Rather, it is the contributions of generous readers and philanthropists, who recognize the importance and urgency of our news service, that has kept JNS going since our founding.
If you would like to join our growing network of supporters, please click on the “Sponsor JNS” link at the top of our site. Large and small contributions alike are extremely meaningful. Please sign up for our daily newsletter, bookmark our homepage, “like” us on Facebook, share our articles and opinions with friends and family, and tell your local print publications to sign up for our syndication service. Most importantly, please make JNS one of the sites you visit regularly.
The true strength of JNS is connected directly to the loyalty of our dedicated readers. It is for you that we have developed this new site, and it is for you that we produce all of our content. Thank you for reading JNS, and we look forward to your feedback.
Alex Traiman is the Managing Director and Jerusalem Bureau Chief of JNS.
