The Lufthansa affair comes on the heels of a community still souring over the Gil Ofarim incident, which might have damaged the credibility of Jewish claims of anti-Semitism. Could that be the cause of the muted response by the Zentralrat, the official Jewish body?
Surveillance video shows Gil Ofarim checking in without the Star of David pendant that appeared on the Instagram video portraying the ethnic slight and which has, to date, garnered nearly 4 million views.
“This blatantly anti-Semitic incident is sickening. It reminds us that anti-Semitism is a problem in all parts of society, not only in the extreme fringes,” said Remko Leemhuis, director of AJC Berlin.
