Israel was bracing for a heatwave on Tuesday, with temperatures expected to rise above 30°C (86°F) throughout most of the country.

During the day, winds were expected to strengthen, especially in the southern part of the country, where sandstorms may occur, according to the Israel Meteorological Service. Hazy conditions were expected across the country.

Temperatures in Beersheba and the western Negev were forecast to rise to as high as 37°C (98.6°F) and in Tel Aviv up to 35°C (95°F). Temperatures in Jerusalem and Haifa were expected to reach 32°C (89.6°F), with Eilat soaring to 33°C (91.4°F).

The weather is due to begin cooling down on Wednesday, with light drizzle possible on the coastal plain, the IMS said. On Friday, the weather is expected to cool further, with light rains in the north and the coastal plain.

According to the IMS, the rains are expected to continue in these areas until Saturday noon. No rain is forecast for Saturday night, the first night of Passover, but temperatures are expected to be below average for the season over the Jewish holiday.
