Hamas will do everything in its power to stop Israel from annexing the Jordan Valley, former Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal said on Wednesday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants “to turn the land of Palestine, the blood of the Palestinian people and the holy places into issues of the [Israeli] election campaign, and this is in the wake of the Arab weakness,” said Mashaal according to Israel National News.

“The struggle was and will continue to be our way and strategy and we will never deviate from it, but will stick to this path to oppose the plans of the occupation and thwart them,” said Mashaal.

Netanyahu announced on Tuesday that he would extend Israeli sovereignty to the Jordan Valley if elected on Sept. 17.
