The Republican Jewish Coalition has announced support for Joe Fraser, a retired Navy intelligence officer seeking to do what no Republican has done for 20 years by winning one of Minnesota’s Senate seats.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar has held the position since 2007 and is up for re-election. She is on the ballot in the Democratic primary on Aug. 13.

“Liberal incumbent Amy Klobuchar is no pushover,” the RJC said in a statement. “Control of the U.S. Senate is up for grabs, and it’s essential that the GOP put forward the strongest possible candidates for every seat.”

Praising Fraser for his “exemplary record of service to our nation,” RJC noted that “for 26 years, he served in the U.S. Navy as an intelligence officer assessing the threats that America and our allies face.”

RJC cited Fraser’s statement that he would “always be a champion for the Jewish people and a supporter of the State of Israel,” and pointed to problems with his primary opponent.

“Royce White, Fraser’s opponent in this primary, could not be more different. Whereas Fraser’s integrity is beyond dispute, White carries the baggage of numerous personal scandals,” the RJC stated.

It described White as “an eager promoter of antisemitic conspiracy theories and an avid defender of egregious antisemites, including Stew Peters, Louis Farrakhan and Kanye West. He echoes the rhetoric of the left’s antisemitic fanatics.”

“People shouldn’t think that, ‘Oh this is not going to happen to me,’” the 32-year-old Judaic studies teacher told JNS. “It can happen to anyone walking the streets, anyone with their groceries.”

“It’s very important, not only for Israel, but also for the United States, that people will be more familiar with the real history,” Yigal Dilmoni, of American Friends of Judea and Samaria, told JNS.
“When influential voices spread conspiracy theories, promote terrorism or dehumanize Jewish people, it fuels real-world violence and intimidation,” Rep. Josh Gottheimer said.
