Two years after Oct. 7: What has Israel learned?

WATCH: Oct. 7 Roundtable Discussion

Leading voices from JNS reflect on the two years since the Oct. 7 massacre. Together, they examine how it shattered illusions, redefined Israel’s military and societal strength, and exposed deep global fault lines in the war of narratives.

The panel features top JNS show hosts and seasoned experts: Doron Spielman, ex-IDF spokesperson and bestselling author of When the Stones Speak; Danny Seaman, former head of the Israeli Government Press Office; Josh Hasten, JNS Middle East correspondent and host of “Jerusalem Minute” and “Judaication"; and Ruthie Blum, senior contributing editor at JNS and co-host of “Israel Undiplomatic.”

The panel explores Israel’s transformation from a nation caught off-guard to one of the most battle-hardened militaries in history, engaging in simultaneous conflicts with Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and Iranian proxies. They discuss ongoing security challenges in Judea and Samaria, the dangerous fallout of past concessions, and whether or not deterrence has truly been restored. The conversation then turns to the global information war, rising antisemitism and the urgent need for a more strategic communications doctrine.

The panel also discusses U.S. President Donald Trump’s ceasefire plan, expressing skepticism about its enforceability and the risks of ceding control to regional actors. On a more personal level, they reflect on how the Oct. 7 trauma has reshaped their lives, inspired unprecedented national unity, as well as awakened a deeper spiritual and cultural resilience among Israeli youth.
