Six hundred people from across New York came together at The Space in Westbury to honor and raise money and awareness for Israel’s wounded soldiers on Dec. 12.
The event was in support of Beit Halochem USA/FIDV, which supports the IDF Disabled Veterans Organization (Beit Halochem) in Israel. Beit Halochem provides crucial support to wounded soldiers as well as support and help for PTSD. Beit Halochem is recognized and authorized by the Israeli government and the Ministry of Defense for the rehabilitation of wounded IDF soldiers.
Since the start of the current war with Hamas, thousands of IDF soldiers have been injured. Beit Halochem is actively aiding 1,850 soldiers recognized as “disabled.” These injuries vary from loss of limbs to seriously impaired eyesight and blindness. Beit Halochem will also address the mental health challenges of over 10,000 soldiers suffering from PTSD after witnessing the atrocities Hamas inflicted on Oct. 7.
“Beit Halochem is a beacon of resilience and support for our veterans who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. Together, let us ensure that our heroes receive the care and recognition that they deserve,” said event organizers, Offer and Michal Attia.
Rabbis Nir Shalom and David Bitton recited prayers for the soldiers and the State of Israel; Cantor Yosef Karavani gave an invocation at a candle-lighting ceremony and speakers gave emotional speeches, which greatly influenced the audience, who donated generously.
