IDF Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen Eyal Zamir visited the Tel Hashomer induction base in Ramat Gan on Sunday to welcome new female field observers to the military.
Maj. Gen. Dado Bar-Kalifa, head of the IDF Personnel Directorate, and other commanders accompanied Zamir.
The chief of staff spoke with the recruits, emphasizing the importance of their role and the need to draft newcomers from all segments of the population to the IDF.
“[We have] great appreciation for the important security work of the female observers on all borders,” Zamir said, according to an IDF statement. “The war has proven more than ever that the female observers are an indispensable part of maintaining the security of the nation—they are the ‘eyes of the nation.’ The IDF failed on October 7, [2023]; the female observers who were on duty did not fail. They were the first to act with courage and heroism under fire.”
“The IDF operates in all arenas, and there are challenges in each of them, so we need each and every recruit and adapt ourselves to the different populations. The IDF’s position is clear—equality of effort. He who gives more, will receive more! Everyone must shoulder the burden of national security,” the chief of staff said.
