JNS repeatedly sought comment from the magazine about why it removed the quote from the U.N. adviser, who has a long history of Jew-hatred.
The community also said that Santiago’s response to concerns from a U.N. official about antisemitism “does not reflect the seriousness of the phenomenon, nor the institutional omissions that have allowed it.”
Danny Danon told the Security Council that the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs “violates the U.N.’s own standards in every other conflict, but when it comes to Israel, those standards disappear.”
“It is unacceptable that man-made and avoidable conflict-induced hunger continues to afflict civilians in Gaza,” the countries, including France and the United Kingdom, said in a joint statement.
A department official wouldn’t confirm to JNS whether the special envoy is slated to travel on to the Middle East.
A Jewish leader in Vancouver wrote that “for my family, the luxury of patience has run out and our confidence in Canada’s political leadership is gone.”
“The administration is obviously trying to be very friendly towards religious people,” Nathan Diament, of the Orthodox Union, told JNS.
The administration cited the U.N. agency’s anti-Israel bias, among other positions, in its decision to exit the group at the end of the year.
