The public university must demonstrate that it “is a safe and welcoming environment for Jewish students,” Rep. Tom Emmer said.
“Jewish students deserve better than to have harassment and threats against them dismissed as ‘privilege,’” Rep. Virginia Foxx said.
A legal letter to the university administration states that the action was unlawful and made without official approval by the Board of Trustees.
He previously served as assistant secretary for civil rights at the U.S. Department of Education in the Trump administration.
“Any university leaders that fail to stand up for our Jewish community will be held accountable,” Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.). stated.
“The general antisemitic, hostile environment turned to focus on me directly because I am a Jew,” Dafna Golden told the subcommittee.
“The district not only tolerated the conduct but also indulged it,” the group said in a statement.
The report fails to address “the pervasive and systemic nature” of anti-Israel, anti-Jewish rhetoric and incidents, says master’s degree graduate Shabbos (“Alexander”) Kestenbaum.
It’s the third Title VI investigation involving religion at UC Davis since December.
