Israeli Air Force fighter jets escorted a Wizz Air plane that had departed London on its approach to Ben-Gurion International Airport on Sunday after a suspected security incident was reported onboard, Israeli authorities said.

“Following suspicion of suspicious conduct on an aircraft, security forces acted according to protocol,” the Israel Airports Authority said.

“The incident has ended. The aircraft landed, and it was found that there was no actual security event,” the statement concluded. All passengers were screened by security following the landing.

According to Channel 12, IAF jets were scrambled after a passenger received an “unusual message related to damage to the plane and its occupants.”

The Wizz Air crew informed the control tower at Ben-Gurion International Airport about the content of the message, after which it was decided to send fighter jets to escort the aircraft as it landed.

No injuries were reported in the incident, according to Channel 12.
