“There is no reason why this should not be the law of the land,” said Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a lead sponsor of the bill. “It’s time that everyone understood—and there is no confusion—what antisemitism is.”
“We need to bring the full force of the law against the antisemites who are harassing Jewish or any other communities all over this state,” the Democratic congressman said in his announcement speech.
The Jewish New Jersey Democrat noted that “this war would be over if tomorrow Hamas put down their weapons and released the hostages.”
The Israeli premier thanked Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) and David Kustoff (R-Tenn.) for their support since Hamas’s Oct. 7 massacre.
The New Jersey congressman is committed “to holding institutions accountable for promoting antisemitism and hate,” per the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce.
“I believe we should be leading every discussion with two major factors: Americans were killed and Americans remain hostage,” the N.J. congressman told JNS.
Rep. Josh Gottheimer said someone put a “Boycott Israeli Apartheid” sticker on the image of a 72-year-old woman whose husband was killed by Hamas.
“Everybody is of the mindset that UNRWA absolutely did unconscionable things,” Rep. Brian Mast told JNS.
“We have to replace UNRWA with something else,” said Rep. Brad Schneider. “I support getting rid of UNRWA.”
The event on “Race, Liberation and Palestine” includes Marc Lamont Hill and Nick Estes, who both have histories of antisemitism.
An “anti-Israel, antisemitic smear campaign from extremists” targeted Rep. Josh Gottheimer, “because he is a strong supporter of the U.S.-Israel relationship and a vocal critic of Hamas terrorists,” the Jewish congressman’s spokesman told JNS.
Many slammed the Mondaire Jones social media post about the ousted House speaker as antisemitic.
