In October, a U.S. court ordered the Iranian government to pay more than $1.4 billion in punitive and compensatory damages to his family.
“The abduction of Mr. Levinson in Iran is an outrageous example of the Iranian regime’s willingness to commit unjust acts,” said U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in a statement.
“This judgment is the first step in the pursuit of justice for Robert Levinson, an American patriot, who was kidnapped and subjected to unimaginable suffering for more than 13 years,” said his family.
“It is impossible to describe our pain,” said his family, who plans “to ensure those Iranian officials involved are held accountable.”
The U.S. State Department has offered a $20 million reward for information about Robert Levinson, who disappeared in Iran in 2007 while working part-time for the CIA.
