Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla.) has announced her intent to file a bipartisan resolution condemning rape as a tool of terror and trauma in warfare.

“I want to make this clear: Rape and sexual assault is not an acceptable weapon of war. This needs to be said from every level of government, and it has to be sent from every person on earth because this is a political, cultural and legal issue,” Frankel told CNN’s Kate Bolduan. “This is really timed with the hearing that was held at the U.N. [this week], and something that we have been talking about in one of my subcommittees, which is the ‘Foreign Ops’ Appropriations Committee, that deals with the funding of Israel and other foreign issues.”

Frankel signed on to a letter last month on this form of atrocity last month, urging women at the United Nations to “publicly condemn Hamas for its brutal Oct. 7 attack on innocent Israelis that included the murder, torture, rape and sexual violence against Israeli women and women of other nationalities.”

JNS contacted Frankel’s press office for comment but did not receive a response.
